Mark Wood to lead Scottish News Consortium
The former ITN CEO Mark Wood has been appointed as the chairman of the Scottish News Consortium whic
The consortium is an alliance between television producer Mentorn Scotland and newspaper groups including DC Thomson, the Herald & Times and Johnston Press as well as the television producer Mentorn Scotland. It is competing against the current news provider STV, which has teamed up with ITN and the radio group Bauer to form the Scottish News Network.
Wood's appointment will put him in direct competition with his former employer to win the bid. The winner will produce the news bulletins on Scotland's channel 3 licensee and STV. It will also provide multimedia news from the leftover money from the digital switchover help scheme.
Wood reportedly said the consortium will create a new model for partnership between newspapers and broadcasters, and transform the way television and broadband news is covered in Scotland.
