STV intensifies legal fight against ITV

The broadcaster STV has intensified its legal fight against ITV by launching another multi-million-p

The company, which holds the ITV licence in Scotland, alleged that the ITV network displayed prejudicial behaviour due to which STV lost money to the tune of between £5m and £15m.

STV claims that ITV telecasts audience-pulling shows such as Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor on its channel ITV2, in which STV has no stake and is losing heavily in the bargain.

STV is understood to have claimed compensation of up to £15m, which is in addition to the £16m that it is already demanding from ITV for unpaid revenues associated with ITV's online deals with Virgin and BT Vision to show network programmes in Scotland.

Ofcom is likely to begin a consultation on ITV's networking arrangements.
