Rajars: Radio 4 boosts listeners
BBC Radio 4 increased its listener numbers by 0.3 per cent year on year according to the latest radi
Its weekly reach totalled 9.84m, which was down from the previous quarter's record total of 10.2m. Total listening numbers for Radio Five Live (including Sports Extra) was up 1.3 per cent year on year to 6.2m.
TalkSport reached 2.5m listeners a week, down 0.7 per cent year on year. The BBC's network of local radio stations had a combined reach of 6.7m listeners a week, down 6.5 per cent. BBC local/regional radio stations had a combined reach of 8.86m listeners, down 6.4 per cent year on year.
In London, BBC London 94.9 had 443,000 listeners, down 22 per cent, and LBC 97.3 had 841,000 listeners, up 33.5 per cent. According to Rajar some 46 million people (or 89.6 per cent of the 15 and over UK population) turned into their favourite radio station every week in the last quarter of 2009. They said this was a 500,000 increase on the same period last year.
