Chart of the day: political donations
Which party received more than £150,000 from the Ministry of Sound?
By George Eaton Published 22 February 2012 19:20Who's winning the donations race? Political donations for the final quarter of 2011 were published today and the chart below shows how the parties fared.

But where's the money coming from? The ten biggest donors are listed below, with the notable inclusion of the Ministry of Sound, which donated £153,267 to the Liberal Democrats. The club's owner, James Palumbo, is a regular donor and a long-standing friend of deputy leader Simon Hughes. As he told the NS in September 2011:
I'm helping the Lib Dems. I've known Simon Hughes for years - he is our local MP in Southwark, a great guy. There are various ways I can be helpful, in terms of systems, particularly marketing, which we're very strong on, and IT and HR. I'm doing a bit of work for them and seeing how that goes. But it's new to me. It's a different language. It's a different set of rules.
Meanwhile, Labour's dependence on the unions continues. The latter were responsible for 76 per cent (£1.8m) of all donations in the last quarter, with the GMB (£649,092) and UNISON (£427,774) the biggest contributers.

Liberals are cooler than tories and social democrats y0.
Which borough contains the ministry of sound and has a number of sizeable planning applications which might impact upon the club...
(Disregarding Indu Pendent's trolling ignorance, obvs...)
The Unions basically control Labour's purse strings so why the hell don't they put more pressure on for Labout to adopt a genuinely progressive, left-wing programme for working people? And if they don't - cut them off and put money and resources to building a genuine party of the working class!
Geroge - why not report the health companies who have been pumping money into the Tory party. Then follow them up in a couple of years and see how much profit they have made out of the NHS,
The Socialist Worker is informative on this issue. Facts, not opinion.
Most of the Tory and Liberal funds come from fund raising activities run by each party's members for the party.
Most of Labour's donations come from the unions for which exposes Labour to pressure to do what they say.
Why doesnt Labour embark on a 10 year strategy to change to fund raising by party members for the party? (the answer is because the Unions wont let the party do this as it would water down their influence)
Whilst unionised Labour can get into power, UK politics will be fundamentally corrupt.
@Indu: 50% of the Tories' donations come from the City. Interesting, isn't it?
How marvellous chaps! Keep Ken away and follow Reginald Fah-fah!!!
