Thats one in the eye for strident feminism. Boys need a father figure around, preferably permanantly attached to the apron strings by a vow of marriage, and nothing else.

Boys need a father figure. Girls, presumably, can do without one.

Also, it's feminism's fault that men leave families. Not the fault of the men leaving at all.

Dads? They were missing from many kid's homes in the 30s and 40s when men went to war. I'm not sure the children left at home turned to crime in response

Well it's certainly the fault of gender feminists, the likes of which dominate the Labour Party. It's been their main aim to destroy the family.

I don't doubt that there are some feckless fathers out there, but the fact is that they don't have entire political movements supporting and encouraging their antics as is the case with similarly behaved mothers.

Feminism can be a straw woman sometimes. It's more diverse than taken by some here. Feminists I know support the rights of fathers.

It's good to focus on men's issues. There's an excellent 'International Men's Day (Nov 19)' group on Facebook that works on them. It should be noted that gender equality is one of the aims of IMD.

I also believe that society has become somewhat anti-male, and that we need a national focus on fathers. The fact of massive rates of young male suicides, mental health issues as well as homelessness among men shows that we need to look at the problems men face.

That doesn't mean, before strawmen of another sort appear, that we should not also talk about problems women face.

Its amazing how War brings people together ith one purpose and cameraderie and bonhomie.

War also leads to emancipation. Women take on the role of men in the factories and in the fields. And the children grow up and help out more in the family and take on more responsibility. Perhaps that is what is missing from the way we live now ... a common purpose and the common good, having been replaced by 'I want' and 'me first'., a trend which started in the 80's
