The Lib Dems finally win proportional representation

Clegg’s party is on 8 per cent in the polls and has 8.7 per cent of seats in the Commons.

By George Eaton

The coalition may have announced several Lib Dem-friendly policies in recent weeks, but there’s more bad news for Nick Clegg in the latest YouGov poll.

Today’s daily tracker poll has his party back down at 8 per cent, its joint lowest rating since 1990. But let no one claim that Clegg has failed to fulfil his promises in power.

He has achieved what eluded every other Lib Dem leader and finally won proportional representation for his party. With the Lib Dems on 8 per cent in the polls, their Commons representation of 8.7 per cent is at last fair and equal.
