David Miliband’s leadership bid was boosted yesterday by a new YouGov poll putting him ahead among both voters and Labour members, and now a new ComRes poll of 135 business leaders has also put him in front.
No surprise, you may say, that this “Blairite” standard-bearer (although, as I’ve explained before, that charge is an unfair one) is favoured by the business community.
But the question asked was an intriguing one:
Which potential Labour Party leader do you think would represent the greatest threat to the coalition government if they were to win the leadership?
After his impressive attacks on the coalition over the VAT rise and Michael Gove’s education blunders, Ed Balls may feel that he has a better claim to that accolade.
Here are the results in full:
David Miliband 51%
Ed Miliband 21%
Ed Balls 15%
Diane Abbott 8%
Andy Burnham 5%
That, of course, is the order many expect the candidates to finish in.
