Labour and Tory posters spoof Little Britain

Gordon Brown is cast as Vicki Pollard in new Tory poster.

Here's the poster Labour released midway through last night's debate to accompany Gordon Brown's claim that David Cameron favours "a big society at home, but Little Britain abroad".

Brown's soundbite may have been obviously rehearsed but it was still one of the most effective lines of the night. Most voters won't have watched the full debate last night, so the soundbites that got picked up by the news bulletins mattered more than usual.

Brown's line has the added virtue of being true. Cameron's Europhobia and his High Tory scepticism of America have left Tory foreign policy without any obvious anchor.

But I'm not sure about this poster. ConservativeHome has ludicrously claimed that it mocks the disabled (have they seen Little Britain?) but it's actually just not very good.

As you can see, the Tories' rapid-reaction unit released their own Little Britain poster in response.

Tory poster

It continues Cameron's assault on Labour's misleading leaflets. But to echo the Tory leader's attack on Nick Clegg last night, Cameron shouldn't put himself on a pedestal.

It was his party that produced this gory (and inaccurate) leaflet on violent crime and that published the most misleading poster of the campaign on Labour's "death tax".

In other words, Dave should put his own house in order first.

It had better be understood that Labour activists have taken umbridge at this dreadful poster. It's their pressure that's most likely seen it withdrawn - not Conservative reaction.

The Conservative record on disability discrimination is abysmal. And well they know it.

GB's line in the debate was first class - punchy and accurate.

But this isn't the way to turn it into a poster.

Ever.

"Conservative record on didability discrimination is abysmal." What planet are you on. It was the Conservatives who introduced the Disability Discrimination Act, Disability Living Allowance, and Care in the Community. What have Labour done, not a lot except sit there while Local Authorities have made cut after cut in provision for disabled people. And introduced measures such as Local Housing Allowance which discriminate against disabled people.

Please, I don't think I can survive 5 more years of Labour help for people with disabilities.

Bloody marvellous! the Great English Gentleman David Cameron won Thursday's leader's debate, it was like bring back fox hunting with a group of dogs.

Hong Kong!, the desperate Gordon Brown was trying to frighten the 'yellow belly voters' to vote for Labour. Yellow bellies get voting! Gordon Brown's little joke: "Them two remind me of my two children fighting over bathtime." He also knew the different between a woman and a man.!

Bang on! Nick Clegg done the leg work again but no one really understands what he stands for. One has to question himself whether he understands what he stands for?

Is it not in bad taste? Wasn't Cameron's dead son in a wheelchair?

Before my disability rendered me unable to get out of bed in 1996, I was a full-time wheelchair user, and I don't find this advert in any way, shape or form offensive. It's not particularly funny (but then I don't like Little Britain), but it's far less offensive than the Conservative's "gravestones" death tax lies.

Why is it that no one seems to be struck, as I am, by the fact that the word "CHANGE" is somehow the opposite of "CONSERVATIVE".
Cameron has been banging on and on about change for weeks but hang on!They call themselves conservative which means they want to keep things exactly as they are, the rich counting their millions and the poor contained in their council estates.
The Conservatives are about, have always been, about keeping the Statu Quo, NOT about change.
What they mean by change is probably putting a stop at any past Labour (failed)attempt at producing a more equal society. with them you will know exactly where you are, back to the good old days where the working class knew its place.
If Cameron gets in, by Christmas, you won't find a single person to admit they voted conservative (this is what happened with Thatcher when she started tearing British society apart!).
Oh what fun that's going to be!
