Is it just me, or is the MPs’ expenses scandal the story that never ends, the gift (for journalists!) that never stops giving? Every time you think it’s over and we’ve moved on and British politics is “back to normal”, it bursts back on to the parliamentary scene and into full public view.
The Telegraph (who else!) is reporting that David Curry, the Tory MP who leads the committee responsible for policing Commons expenses, has claimed almost £30,000 for a second home that his wife has banned him from staying in (and where he is alleged to have been conducting an affair). Curry has now resigned as chairman of the parliamentary standards and privileges committee and faces a formal inquiry into his claims.
By the way, will these latest revelations now silence those people who claim that the expenses saga will damage only Labour?
Oh, and meanwhile, Labour’s deputy leader, Harriet Harman, is to be prosecuted over a car accident in her south London constituency back in July.
What a wonderful night for our elected representatives . . .
