Daily Express puts the Dutch dressage team on the front page [Updated]

Oh dear.

The Daily Express celebrates Britain's record haul of gold medals, putting yesterday's four medallists on the cover: Alistair Brownlee, Laura Trott and Chris Hoy. But who's that representing the dressage? Why, it's Adelinde Cornelissen, Edward Gal and Anky van Grunsven of the Dutch team, with their orange colouring and bronze medals delightfully on show.

Oh dear, Daily Express. Oh dear.

Update:

Double oh dear. The Mirror made the same mistake as well - twice:

It seems likely that the blame lies at least partially with a mis-captioned tag from a photo agency.

Makes some kind of hoss sense to us. Foxy must be lovin' it. As he's said time and time again, equestrians don't need to hunt down and kill a fox just to feel good.

However you look at this, there will have been journalists involved in the taking, labelling, transmission, selection, and publication of this image at so many levels.. One cannot simply blame the agency, although clearly they are the starting point. Did the original photographer mis-caption? One would have thought not, but it is possible. but surely when someone made a point of selecting the image, a specialist involved in the Olympics coverage was on hand? maybe not. There was a time when one could be sure that things like this were properly checked. Not any more...

How many redundancies have there been at our national newspapers over the past few years?

This shows 'paper based journalism' is on its last legs. A web hosted site could have changed immediately......
