A Holy Alliance

The political relationship of Lord Ahmed and Baroness Warsi goes back a long way.

The Prime Minister has rightly congratulated Lord Ahmed and Baroness Warsi on the work they did to secure the release of Gillian Gibbons from prison in Sudan. Hats off to them both.

Those looking for an explanation of how a Labour and a Tory peer could work together so closely should look at the strange alliance that emerged between them in the run-up to the last election, when plain Sayeeda Warsi stood as a Conservative candidate against Labour MP Shahid Malik. It seems that Lord Ahmed's support for his Labour colleague was less than enthusiastic.
