Brown down but not out

Our political correspondent on an explosive exchange at this week's Prime Minister's Questions...

Explosive clash at PMQs a minute ago. Cameron went on the offensive about Brown's personality and failure to govern as PM. Brown refused to engage, talking about the economy and Cameron's lack of policies and U-turns on supporting Labour's strategy.

Brown looked out of touch and Cameron got the better of him - until the end, when Brown bellowed that the Tory leader is "out of his depth". Labour MPs, who had remained ominously silent until that moment, suddenly roared and called for more. Brown is down, but he's not out.

Heaven help Britain if this is the level of discussion about its problems. Are PMQs the only time the people's representatives get worked up about something? Don't bother to answer. I know. Here in Zimababwe we have a saying 'Lok utla denk suti,' which means 'those who lack skills shout loudest.'
