Etta James, the soul singer, has died aged 73. Latterly, James’s song “At Last” met a global audience when Beyonce sang it to Barack and Michelle Obama after his inauguration as President. But James’s career began when she was just 14 years old and her hits included “I’d Rather Go Blind”, “Pushover” and “Damn Your Eyes”. She won six Grammy awards and was once dubbed “the greatest of all modern blues singers” by producer Jerry Wexler.
