The New Statesman cartoonist launches artists' campaign against funding cuts.
By Oliver Cussen Published 10 September 2010 14:31
NS cartoonist David Shrigley has launched a high-profile campaign against government cuts to the arts with this video, in which he argues the arts offer us "something different than the latest Hollywood teen vampire bollocks, or reality TV".
Over 100 leading artists, including Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Anish Kapoor and Tracey Emin, are involved in the campaign, and each week will see the release of the work of a different artist, created in response to the campaign. Supporters of the artists' campaign can also sign this petition which will be sent to the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt.

I find it ironic that the Arts Council is using a cartoon animation to launch this campaign.
This comes after a long history of refusal to give funds to support this country's cartoon industry, its art, their traders and activities.

For disclosure, the Bloghorn, is run by the UK Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation. We work to promote the art form and develop events for the public to enjoy.
