An alternative to Amazon

Housmans launches an "ethical" online bookshop.

Housmans, the radical bookshop based in King's Cross, north London, has launched a website intended to provide an "ethical alternative" to Amazon.

As Infinite Thought explains here, while the online giant reportedly treats its staff poorly -- and while its pricing structure hurts the business of independent publishers -- many of us continue to buy books through the site for lack of any other option.

As you can see, the Housmans website is still experiencing a few glitches, but at the time of posting it has given prominent positions to two NS-endorsed books: Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett's The Spirit Level and Paul Mason's Live Working or Die Fighting.

Worth bookmarking, I'd say.
