50 People Who Matter 2011 | 47. Han Han

Blog star.

Han Han, a professional rally driver and bestselling author, is China's most popular blogger and therefore possibly the most popular blogger in the world. His current affairs site has attracted more than 300 million hits. In a country where dissent is frowned on, the 29-year-old is considered an inflammatory figure and has become a leading anti-establishment voice of the post-1980s generation. He has published five novels, the first of which became China's bestselling work in 20 years. His debut, Triple Door, is both a recasting of his life as a rebellious junior school student in Shanghai and a critique of his country's education system. In 2010, Han founded the literary magazine Party, which, though an instant hit, was discontinued after one issue, in all likelihood under pressure from the state authorities. Han also dabbles in music production and has won several prizes on the international rally racing circuit.
