Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) is a medical technology company serving large healthcare institutions, life science researchers and clinical laboratories. The company is involved in the manufacturing and selling of medical supplies and devices, laboratory equipment and diagnostic products.

The company operates in the US, Canada, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Japan, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. It is headquartered in New Jersey, the US.

BD operates through three reportable business segments namely: Medical (52.1% of the total revenues during fiscal year 2009), Diagnostics (31.1%) and Biosciences (16.8%).

The company classifies its geographic locations into three regions namely, the US, Europe and Other operations. The US region accounted for 44.8% of the company\'s total revenues for the fiscal year 2009 followed by Europe (34.6%) and Other operations (20.6%).

The company reported revenues of (U.S. Dollars) USD 7,160.87 million during the fiscal year ended September 2009, an increase of 1.21% over 2008. The operating profit of the company was USD 1,650.35 million during the fiscal year 2009, an increase of 7.38% over 2008. The net profit of the company was USD 1,231.60 million during the fiscal year 2009, an increase of 9.28% over 2008.
