Kia Motors June sales up 16.2%

Korean carmaker sees biggest gains in China.

Kia Motors global sales for passenger cars (export sales, domestic sales and sales from overseas plants), recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles increased by 16.2% to 184,111 units in June 2010, compared to same period a year ago.

In June 2010, sales in general markets increased 52.6% to 39,656 units, sales in China increased by 18.1% to 26,663 units, sales in North America increased by 17.9% to 37,770 units, and Europe sales were up to 12.0% to 35,591 units.

The company has posted the C-segment Cerato sales of 33,803 units for June 2010. The B-segment Rio and Sportage compact SUV follow with 18,413 and 16,827 units sold, respectively. The Sorento mid-size CUV sales were 15,322 units and the sales of cee'd C-segment vehicle were 12,247 units for June 2010.

In terms of vehicle category sold overseas, the company's recreational vehicles and passenger cars have increased 40.3% (54,543 units) and 14.3% (80,868 units), respectively, for June 2010.

Hyoung-Keun Lee, president of Kia Motors Corporation, said: "I am encouraged to see sales of Kia vehicles around the world eclipse the one million unit annual mark faster than ever before in our company's history.

"All of our major markets are now gearing up for retail sales of the completely redesigned and reengineered Sportage CUV, which will certainly add to our momentum and help continue strong sales for the brand in the second half of the year."
