Kia Motors sales up 36 per cent in April

Company posts a double digit year-on-year sales increase in all sales regions.

Kia Motors' global sales of passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles reached 174,505 units in April 2010, an increase of 36 per cent compared to same period a year ago.

General markets sales rose by 62.9 per cent with 38,926 units, China sales rose by 54.6 per cent with 28,082 units, Korea sales rose by 32.8 per cent to 38,513 units, Europe sales rose by 24.1 per cent to 33,891 units and North America sales rose by 17.4 per cent to 35,093 units.

In April 2010, the C-segment Cerato (known as 'Forte' in some markets) was the Kia's best selling model in overseas markets with 34,987 units sold, the company's B-segment Rio and Sportage compact SUV accounted for 17,393 and 16,366 units, respectively. The company sold 13,732 units of Sorento mid-size SUV. In terms of vehicle category sold overseas, Kia's recreational vehicles and passenger increased in April by 43.3 per cent (50,044) and 34.0 per cent (81,880 units), respectively.

Hyoung-Keun Lee, president of Kia Motors, said: "Kia's sales performance around the world so far in 2010 has been buoyed by strong customer demand for our smaller segment vehicles like the all-new Cerato (Forte) C-segment and Rio B-segment passenger cars, as well as our competitive recreational vehicles like the all-new Sorento and Sportage.

"With completely redesigned and reengineered models like the next generation Sportage and Optima D-segment sedan due to go on sale later this year, we expect to see even more dramatic positive changes in consumer perceptions toward the Kia brand in the months ahead."
