The Polo GTI uses a supercharger from idle through to 3,000rpm to give an output of 180PS at 6,200rpm and 184lbsft of torque from 2,000rpm.
According to Volkswagen, the new Polo GTI features a 1.4-litre TSI engine which is linked to a seven-speed; twin-clutch DSG gearbox that channels drive through the front axle; headlight units with the option of LED running lights; a new front bumper; 17-inch wheels fitted along with a set of red brake callipers.
In addition, it also comes with XDS differential, an electronic cross-axle traction control system for enhanced traction and handling; new springs and dampers which results in a 15mm lower ride height than the conventional Polo; and delivers 47mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 139g/km of CO2.
The company said the new Polo GTI has revised dials, a new, flat-bottomed GTI steering wheel with small gearshift paddles and other features. The new Polo GTI is expected to arrive in the UK this summer with pricing and specification.
