2011 Mustang to use Goodyear's high-performance tyre

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (Goodyear) has said that its new high performance tyre, Eagle F1

Goodyear said that its new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is built upon an Eagle high performance platform and will be used for 2011 Ford Mustang. The 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, with optional performance package, was unveiled recently at Chicago Auto Show.

The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2, an asymmetric, directional tread design with tread blocks on the outboard shoulder, will help enhance dry cornering grip. Its sweeping aquachannel grooves on the inboard side of the tread helps enhance wet cornering grip. A new multi-radius mold shape helps to offer efficient handling and smooth.

Bob Toth, director of new products at Goodyear, said: "The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is positioned as a race-inspired, ultra-high performance dry traction tire for select super cars. With a left-side, right-side specific tread design, it offers superb dry traction and precise handling, complementing both the performance and appearance of sports cars."

According to Goodyear, the tyre, which has been tested on some of the road courses in North America, will be appearing on the new Mustang this year in two sizes - P265/40ZR19 and P285/35ZR20.
