Toyota's recall to extend to Europe and China

Toyota Motor Corp has announced the recall of millions of its cars will extend to Europe and China t

The world's largest automobiles maker is expected to recall over 2 million vehicles in Europe, on top of the 6 million already recalled in North America.

It is not immediately clear which models and how many vehicles will Toyota recall in Europe. It has applied to China's quality control office for the recall of thousands of RAV4 vehicles.

The new recall, triggered due to concerns over faulty accelerator pedals, has stained Toyota's otherwise spotless safety record.

Its shares have fallen over 15 per cent since it announced the recall just over a week ago.

Britain has over a million Toyota owners. They have been informed by the company of a potentially dangerous defect in their vehicles.

In a statement, Toyota GB warned that "certain pedal mechanisms might stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position".

There is speculation that the defect has arisen due to parts supplied to Toyota by an Indiana-based automotive company.
