Navistar to develop fuel efficient super trucks

Navistar is developing a Super Truck that promises 50 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency.

The US-based truck manufacturer said it will receive $37m federal funding to collaborate with the US Department of Energy (DoE) to explore such fuel efficient technologies.

Through the DoE project, Navistar will develop technologies that improve truck and trailer aerodynamics, combustion efficiency, waste heat recovery, hybridization, idle reduction and reduced rolling resistance tyres,.

According to the company, this vehicle technology could save around 100m gallons of fuel per day and reduce carbon emissions from on-road vehicles by 20 per cent, by 2030.
