The New Statesman is looking to appoint an events assistant on a four month paid fixed contract, with the possibility of the role becoming a permanent member of staff. The ideal candidate will need to be educated to degree level, have good project management and administrative skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. An understanding of UK politics and public policy is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will report to the Partnerships and Events Manager and will work alongside the commercial and editorial team in the development and implementation of the New Statesman‘s external activities including public debates, round tables and conferences.
Duties will include contributing to the implementation and delivery of events, writing briefing documents, proposals, guest-list development and data management, progress reporting, venue and catering supervision and those activities which are necessary to ensure the successful conclusion of a New Statesman event. As part of the role you will be expected to travel with the team to events outside of London and as a result you must be flexible with working hours and will have to work some weekends.
This is a full-time paid job, which would suit someone who is organised and passionate about current affairs. There will be on-the-job training and help with career development, but equally this will suit someone who is happy to work as part of a team and independently.
Please apply with a CV and covering letter (which should include the kinds of events you like to attend) to Rosalind Goates, Partnerships and Events Manager: events@newstatesman.co.uk
In addition to your covering letter we also ask that you write an imaginary letter to an MP of your choosing inviting them to participate in an event.
The deadline for applications is the 31st July with interviews to be held in late August.
