Ian Stewart has been appointed as the new editor of the Scotsman. Stewart currently fills the role of editor at Scotland on Sunday, the Scotsman’s sister paper, and is to work simultaneously in both roles.

The change comes after John McLellan lost the position of editor in a shakeup of the publication earlier this year.

Stewart began working at the Scotsman as night news editor in 1991, and has consistently worked within the three publications held by the Scotsman since, apart from a brief position at the Scottish Daily Mail. Stewart will be the twelfth editor to fill the post since he began working with the publication.

The Scotsman is the flagship publication of Johnston Press Scotland.  Andrew Richardson, managing director of Johnston Press Scotland, said: “Ian is the right person and he is doing a good job”.

Other positions at the Scotsman will continue to be filled by Peter MacMahon, the newly appointed deputy editor at the Scotsman, and Kenny Farquharson, who will remain in his posts as senior assistant editor at the Scotsman and deputy editor at Scotland on Sunday.
