Chart of the day: Live long

The ONS today released its latest set of statistics (pdf) on life expectancy in England for the period 2007 to 2009.

The local authority with the lowest life expectancy is Manchester for men and Liverpool for women, where a 16-year-old can expect to live to 58.9 and 63.7, respectively. The longest-lived is Kensington and Chelsea for men and the Chilterns for women, where the same person could expect to live for 69 and 69.7 years.

Breaking the data up into regions shows much of the discrepancy; breaking it into local authorities shows even more:
