NASA to organise "TweetUp" at its centres

The centre will provide @NASA followers with the opportunity to tour the Florida launch centre.

NASA will host a two-day Tweetup for 150 of its Twitter followers on 31 October and 1 November at its Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the US aerospace research agency announced on its website.

The Tweetup is an informal meeting of those who use the microblogging network Twitter.

The goal of the TweetUp is to allow people who regularly interact with each other via Twitter to meet in person and discuss one of their favourite subjects: NASA, the research centre said.

The centre will provide @NASA followers with the opportunity to tour the centre, view the shuttle launch and speak with NASA managers, astronauts, shuttle technicians and engineers.

NASA will accommodate 150 Twitter users randomly selected from those who had signed up in August.

The space agency said it also intends to broadcast a portion of the meet-up on 31 October on NASA's uStream page.

The space agency has planned a similar TweetUp at Houston on 9 November.
