London Metro launches paid-for content with iPad app

The Metro fantasy football league app is the first paid-for product by the freesheet.

London freesheet Metro has launched its first paid-for product -- an app for the iPhone and iPad, New Media Age reported on Friday.

The Metro Fantasy Football app priced at 59p lets users organise their Metro fantasy football league teams, check scores from Premier League games and interact with rival players.

The freesheet's decision to launch the paid app is reportedly to increase its online branding activity and target commuters aged 18-44 years. Metro digital director Jamie Walters said the football app will help them find out about its mobile audience, thus helping them decide on the other products.

The launch is the first among a planned rollout of apps on other platforms such as Android.

Metro will also launch apps featuring games and travel news updates relevant to commuters, Walters added.
