Cable to outline coalition's plans for business

Business Secretary to announce plans to increase bank lending in first major speech.

Vince Cable will give more details of the government's plans to help UK businesses in his first major speech today. The Business Secretary is expected to outline new proposals to get banks to lend more to small and medium-sized companies.

The speech follows the news that Cable will head a review of all regulation inherited from the last government due to take effect from this month onwards.

"The deluge of new regulations has been choking off enterprise for too long. We must move away from the view that the only way to solve problems is to regulate," Cable said on Wednesday.

He is also expected to use today's speech to reaffirm the government's plan to part-privatise the Royal Mail.
