Times Square bomb suspect confesses

Faisal Shahzad admits planting car bomb, as Obama says US "will not be terrorised".

A US citizen of Pakistani origin, Faisal Shahzad, has confessed to planting a car bomb in New York's Time Square.

The computer expert was reportedly arrested while aboard a Dubai-bound plan at JFK airport on Monday just moments before it took off.

Shahzad faces five terrorism-related charges, including attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and transporting an explosive device with the intent to kill.

He has also admitted that he received training in bomb-making during a trip to Pakistan. Police in Karachi have arrested at least one man on suspicion of involvement.

President Barack Obama offered a defiant message: "As Americans and as a nation, we will not be terrorised. We will not cower in fear, we will not be intimidated. We will be vigilant and we will protect and defend the country we love."
