Plane crash near Libya kills 104

Commercial plane en route to Gatwick crashes, killing 93 passengers and 11 crew members.

At least 104 people have died in a plane crash in Libya, according to airport officials.

The Afriqiyah Airways flight from Johannesburg has been due to land at 6.10am local time (4.10am GMT, and crashed close to the airport.

The plane had been due to go onto Gatwick airport after stopping off at Tripoli.

According to Reuters, at least 93 passengers were on board the commercial flight, as well as 11 crew members. The staff are all thought to be Libyan nationals.

They are thought to be of various nationalities, including British and South African.

Afriqiyah Airways is a Libyan airline that was founded in 2001.
