Thai protestors have poured gallons of human blood onto the gates of the government headquarters in Bangkok, in a symbolic protest.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of red-shirt demonstrators queued to donate blood. Nurses took a few teaspoons of blood from each volunteer and transferred it into dozens of large plastic containers.

Amid fears of clashes, on the fourth day of the peaceful protest, security forces agreed to let the protestors spill the blood outside the compound of prime minister Abhisit Vejajjiva. Neither he nor his family were at their home at the time.

The demonstrators, who support the ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, say that the government is illegitimate, and demand that Abhisit calls new elections. He has so far refused to do so.
