Lord Paul Myners CBE
Financial Services Secretary to the Treasury
Paul Myners was appointed Financial Services Secretary to the Treasury in October 2008. Prior to this he was chairman of the Guardian Media Group, publisher of The Guardian and The Observer newspapers, and chairman of Land Securities Group.
He is a former Chairman of Marks & Spencer and Deputy Chair of PowerGen. He held a number of third sector posts, including Chair of the Trustees of the Tate gallery and Chair of the The Low Pay Commission and the Personal Accounts Delivery Authority, all of which he relinquished on his appointment. He has held directorships with Bank of New York, IMRO, Bridgepoint, Coutts, Lloyd's Market Board, NatWest, O2 and Orange.
Paul was educated at Truro school and the University of London. He has an Honorary Doctorate in Law from the University of Exeter and is a Visiting Fellow at Nuffield College Oxford.
Mark Hoban MP
Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury
Mark was appointed the Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury in December 2005. Between November 2003 and December 2005 he was Shadow Minister for Schools. Prior to November 2003, he was an Opposition Whip. Mark was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Fareham in June 2001. He was re-elected with an increased majority in 2005. Mark was a member of the Select Committee on Science and Technology between 2001 and 2003.
Mark was born and brought up in the North East of England. He attended a comprehensive school in Durham and graduated with a degree in economics from the London School of Economics. Mark is a Chartered Accountant. He worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and its predecessor firms between 1985 and 2001.
Colin Breed MP
Shadow Minister to the Treasury
Colin Breed first entered banking with Midland Bank (now HSBC) in September 1964, becoming an Associate of the Institute of Bankers in 1971. He held various appointments in different branches up until 1979 when he was promoted to Assistant Controller of Advances at the Regional Head Office in Exeter, becoming Area Manager for Plymouth in 1981. He then moved into venture capital management at Dartington & Co and worked his way up to Director of Banking Services and then Managing Director in 1989.
In 1990 he moved to Allied Securities Stockbrokers and in 1991 acquired Gemini Abrasives Ltd, a distribution company, which was sold in 1999. Two years earlier, in 1997, he was elected as Liberal Democrat MP for South East Cornwall, holding many positions over the years culminating in his position as part of the Liberal Democrat Treasury team under Vince Cable, and the only banker on the Treasury Select Committee.

Alex Brummer is the City Editor of the Daily Mail and author of the acclaimed book The Crunch: How Greed and Incompetence Sparked the Credit Crisis. He previously worked at the Guardian where he was successively Foreign Editor, Financial Editor and Assistant Editor. He is widely regarded as one of Britain's top financial journalists.
