At least four people are dead and six more injured after a suicide bomb attack in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.

The explosion, in the north-western city, took place on a busy commercial road, near an army and police checkpoint. Two of the dead are policemen.

This is part of a recent upsurge in militant violence in Pakistan, as the army fights a ground offensive in the Taliban stronghold of South Waziristan.

Peshawar has been at the frontline of the attacks. Last Tuesday, three were killed outside a club for journalists. On 28 October, at least 100 people died after a huge car bomb attack at a busy market.
