Brown bashing, part 94

His letter mistake was wrong but ...

The BBC is among those outlets terribly excited by Gordon Brown's "failure" to spell correctly the name of Guardsman Jamie Janes, 20, from Brighton, who was tragically killed in an explosion in Afghanistan in October, in a letter to his mother.

Clearly, this death is deeply unfortunate, to say the least. Men like Janes are admirable beyond words; lest we forget them.

However -- deep breath -- I, for one, am entirely bored of Brown-bashing. It's reaching such heights that it forgets that Brown (who any old Tom, Dick or Harry is now keen to bash from any angle) is blind in one eye, is basically blind in the other and is clearly unsociable through no clear fault of his own.

There are, indeed, two sides to Gordon Brown. But, when it comes to innocent mistakes, let us please grow up.

Surely with all the above being known, it should have been checked. Common sense? He doesn't do himself any favours.

I completely agree. Having just listened to the telephone call between Gordon Brown and Mrs Janes, and read the disgraceful coverage of it by the Sun, I am left feeling the deepest sympathy not only for the tragic loss suffered by Mrs Janes but also for the PM. Surely the ones who truly have a case to answer for are the Sun, both for their exploitation of a poor woman whose grief none of us can begin to comprehend, and their coordinated attack upon a man who after all had only the best of intentions.
