How idiotic – and sinister – of the CBI Scotland director, Iain McMillan to claim that the heroic march earlier this week in Kilmarnock to save the legendary Johnnie Walker plant – and with it almost a thousand jobs – sends dangerous “signals” to the rest of the world. It is unlikely that the good people of Kilmarnock – half of whom turned out on Sunday – will agree. The strength of the product – born and bred in the town – lies in its connection to the community. These jobs aren’t tranferrable without fundamentally undermining the whisky’s brand. As others have said, without Kilmarnock, it simply isn’t Johnnie Walker. This silly man should remember that, and consider his position.
