Poverty in Israel

Published 29 May 2008

Not enough coverage is given in this country to social deprivation in Israel and to what Ehud Olmert and his cronies are doing to their own people ("The great betrayal: how the left and Israel fell out of love", 19 May). According to the recent Israeli Poverty Report, there are 800,000 children in Israel living below the poverty line. Some Israeli workers are unable to feed their children properly. As a left-wing Zionist, I regard this as unacceptable. I would like to ask "patriots" such as Binyamin Netanyahu how sending Israeli children to bed hungry is patriotic.
