Rising stars

Andrew Stephen is misinformed when he writes ("Obama unmasked", 14 January): "It was only during 2007 . . . that the American media fell head-over-heels in love with [him]." A search of the New York Times archive produces 104 articles about Barack Obama between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2004. Many of these clearly present him as a strong rising star. In 2005, there were 85 articles and in 2006, there were 162. In comparison, the same date searches for Hillary Clinton in the New York Times yield 37 for 2004, 45 for 2005 and 26 for 2006.
