Other passengers among the 400 on the train sat just yards from where the 80-year-old Queen sat chatting to her husband.
As a treat, a steward appeared and served them tea - in china cups - and shortbread biscuits.
A fellow traveller said: "It was just amazing to see her on the train rubbing shoulders with ordinary passengers."
