A statement on the secondary school's website read: "Hugging has become very acceptable among students and this has led to some students believing that it is OK to go up to anyone and hug them.
"This is very serious not only for the victim but also for anyone accused of acting inappropriately.
To avoid putting anyone at risk, please avoid hugging." Mr Kenning appeared to backtrack yesterday, insisting: "Hugging was happening extensively and becoming the norm. We were worried that it might become inappropriate. So we nipped it in the bud."

Residents hit by robbers seven times in four days have hit out at police claiming that they did nothing to warn them and little to catch the criminals.
Homeowners in Glenmore Road, Belsize Park, say the only response they got from police was a sign attached to lamp-posts, which read: "Burglars operate in this neighbourhood."
