Ben Davies

Published 28 August 2006

Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Statesman which looks at what was going on in the rest of the world while Lebanon burned and examines how corporations are following in the footsteps of free-spirited internet users and adopting blogging as their latest marketing trick.

We have the usual eclectic mix of writers examining issues as diverse as gays in the American military to Tony Blair’s guru Anthony Giddens on Gadaffi and the third way.

Meanwhile Julian Clary explains how airport security fears are hampering him in his usual role of being the in-flight entertainment.

And can I take this opportunity to introduce myself. I have just been appointed the new editor of newstatesman.com and am look forward to bringing you a brand new website with lots of exciting innovations later this year.
