Yesterday the 22-year-old, from Curbridge, near Southampton, escaped a prison sentence after a judge heard how he had frequently ended up working extra hours to get his round done.

He had been given the job despite telling his employers of his dyslexia, the court heard.

A spokesman for Royal Mail defended its decision to employ a dyslexic, saying it was determined not to discriminate. "A person is judged on their skills to do the job, irrelevant of any disability they may have," she added.
