Just friendly banter

An advert for a mobile-phone screensaver which featured the slogan "I hate Scousers" was given the all-clear by advertising watchdogs yesterday. It was light-hearted and not offensive to Liverpudlians, the Advertising Standards Authority ruled. The ad was published in a football magazine and was aimed at Manchester United supporters, who have a long-running rivalry with Liverpool fans. The mobile-phone wallpaper features a picture of United defender Gary Neville celebrating his team's victory over Liverpool. The ASA ruled that "the ad was unlikely to incite and fuel hatred between fans of the two clubs".

Easy mistake

In our review of The Who at Leeds University, page 36, 19 June, we attributed to Pete Townshend the exclamation, "You are wank!" [sic]. We are assured that what he actually told the audience was, "We are all back." Apologies.
