A Church of England bishop has backed a service for Goths in which hymns will be replaced by music from bands such as Depeche Mode, Joy Division and the Sisters of Mercy. The 45-minute service by the Rev Marcus Ranshaw - himself a Goth - will take place at the Whitby Festival this month.

The Bishop of Huntingdon, the Rt Rev John Inge, said: "An imaginative initiative like this, to reach people who would not normally come to church, is to be applauded."

Richard Smith, 77, "always votes BNP" because there are too many foreigners in the country. He says "they" burgled him four weeks ago. Asked how he knew who it was, he said: "We knew by the big foot mark. I can't see many English people having feet as big as that."
