A suicidal man dressed as Count Dracula threatened to throw himself off a

30m-high bridge yesterday. The unarmed man, wearing a vampire costume,

told police he was going to jump from the Horden Viaduct in County Durham. Police spent three hours convincing him to climb down. When he did, he was arrested and fined £80 for trespassing on a railway line.

News that the famous film director Ken Russell is working on a new project will be of interest to those who know that the controversial character was [once] married to a Swanage girl. Henrietta Baynes was the youngest daughter of Leslie "Baron" Baynes when her family lived at Dunshay Manor. Hetty, as she is always called, became a film and stage actress and in the 1980s married the venerable director. His new film is called Kittens for Hitler.
