Suicide Bomber

Bill Greenwell

Published 22 April 2002

I am a suicide bomber. My head

separates from my soul.

I am whole. I am dead. Settlements

are strapped to my chest.

My heart pounds with the sound

of wailing. My ancestors stood

on this broken earth,

furious with pride and desire.

Read Isaiah. I am ready

to detonate my state in one

flash of defiance. I am a suicide

bomber. I will have revenge

on the terrorists. I will build

a high fence around me, and blow

myself into the Palestinian

history books. I can tell.

I am a suicide bomber. Fare well.
