While visiting our time-share in Portugal, a tout offered to buy it. We agreed, they took a deposit of £2,866 from our credit card and we paid them another £1,066 two months later. We were told we would receive £7,000 on our return home to enable us to repay the credit card company and to cover the later payment of £1,066. Needless to say, no cheque arrived.
Then we were told we had to pay them £75 a year for three years, after which we would get the £7,000 plus £8,000 for our time-share. Now they are saying our payments are non-refundable. Have we been conned? - Letter in the Mirror (Francis Harvey)

A woman who reported to police that she had seen her car, stolen the previous day, parked near her home in Greater Manchester, was advised to use a hacksaw to remove a new steering lock and drive the vehicle away. - Manchester Metro News (Sigrid Rabiger)
