The Popular Will

Bill Greenwell

Published 18 February 2002

Will Young won Pop Idol after eight million phoned the programme. He is a politics graduate - unlike George Bush

I am a popular idol

I am the president puff

My hands grip the policy bridle

And I know political stuff

I won the popular phone-in

I can cure measles and mumps

Wait till my vaccine is flown in

Soon I'll be coming up trumps

My albums may strike you as killers

My singles may possibly bomb

I may be as real as Gorillaz

But I'm sweet as an apple-pie-mom

Persia, Korea, rubella -

I know where they stand in the charts

I'm a helluva popular fella

And I'm singing all of the parts
