Taxman

Published 10 December 2001

George Harrison died. Debate continued on whether to raise taxes to fund public services

Let's tell Estelle and Al for free:

It's time we had a spending spree -

'Cos I'm the Taxman, yeah I'm the Taxman.

Should 7p appear too great,

Then don't expect a welfare state. -

'Cos I'm the Taxman, yeah I'm the Taxman.

If you need a school, I'll tax the oil,

If you need a nurse, I'll tax a royal,

If you want a war, I'll tax the soil,

If you want a job, I'll tax your toil -

Paxman!

'Cos I'm the Taxman, yeah I'm the Taxman.

If No 10 wants cash to spend,

My sums are on this fax to send -

I'm not an axeman, no-oh I'm the Taxman.

If there are hungry mouths to feed,

I'm only anxious to succeed -

'Cos I'm the Taxman, yeah I'm the Taxman.

And I am lurking for no one but me.
