False Impressions

Bill Greenwell

Published 09 April 2001

Impressionists could be sued, Jesus's "face" was recreated, the election was postponed. With apologies to I'm Not Saying Who

Is this the face of Jesus?

Was his skin so waxy-cheap?

Now the starting-gate's not Lifted

And the dates have all been shifted,

Must we wait here counting sheep?

Is this the face of William?

What impression is produced?

Does he always sound so stroppy

Or is that his carbon copy?

Will his pigs come home to roost?

Is this the face of Charlie?

Does the imitation flatter?

Will he always sit there cackling

To the sound of roasted crackling?

Does his likeness really matter?

Is this the face of Tony

Or is it another geezer's?

Now the bishops have him cowed

Does he look so pious-proud?

And is this the face of Jesus?
